Short answer: Kling's app has a $0 Basic plan with no monthly credits and four paid plans, from Standard at $6.99 for the first month ($8.80 after, 660 credits) to Ultra+; 100 credits cost $0.71 to $1.06. Its app pages do not publish how many credits a clip uses. Per clip, 5 seconds of Kling 3.0 is about $0.42 on Kling's API (prepaid packages from $700) and from $1.40 on Cicadas.
We make Cicadas, not Kling. Every figure about Kling below is copied from its own pages, with screenshots kept on file; we did not sign up to Kling or generate there.

How many credits a Kling clip uses
Kling's app pages do not publish credits per clip; the generator shows them after you sign in. Its July 2026 cost guide says Standard's 660 credits make about 33 720p videos, without a length, and that native 4K costs 30 credits a second. Its credit policy prices credits at 66 for $1 at the standard rate; the membership page's Standard plan works out at $1.06 per 100.
Kling's API prices
The developer API is priced per second at $0.14 a unit (list price) and sold in prepaid packages: the smallest is $700 for 5,000 units, valid 180 days. These packages do not cover Kling 4.0 yet.

Is Kling AI free?
Basic costs $0, but the membership page's comparison lists no monthly credits for it and leaves the daily-free-credits-for-subscribers row empty. A sign-in prompt on the same page offers a trial package with limited-time free credits, and another Kling page says there is a free tier with limited credits. We did not sign in, so we cannot say how many credits the trial gives.
Do Kling credits expire?
Kling's credit policy says membership credits are valid for one month from when they are issued and purchased credits for two years; and a failed generation refunds its credits.
What Kling 3.0 costs elsewhere
The same Kling 3.0, 5 seconds, on every platform we read (the same data as the AI video cost index). Dollars use each platform's cheapest public plan or pack; Cicadas uses the $15 pack of 1,500 credits.

Kling's own API is the cheapest per clip, but it starts with $700 up front. Among ways to pay per clip without a plan, Cicadas is $1.40 silent or $2.10 with sound, close to Runway on its $15 plan; Higgsfield's figure is the approximate one from its article.
What we could not check
We did not sign in to Kling, so we saw neither the credits per clip in its app nor how many credits the trial gives. Kling changed its plans recently (the membership page announces new tiers), and the plan prices in its July cost guide no longer match the membership page; this page follows the membership page.

On 2026-10-17, Kling's membership page listed Basic at $0, Standard at $6.99 for the first month and $8.80 after with 660 credits a month, Pro at $25.99 then $32.56 with 3,000, Premier at $135 then $181.99 with 18,000, and Ultra+ at $402 then $544.99 with 57,000. Credits cost $1.06 per 100 on Standard and $0.71 on Ultra+.
Is Kling AI free?
Partly. The Basic plan is $0 but includes no monthly credits, and the membership page lists daily free credits for subscribers only. A sign-in prompt on that page offers a trial package with limited-time free credits, and another Kling page says there is a free tier with limited credits.
