About GIF to MP4 on Cicadas

Turn an animated GIF into an MP4 video that plays on Instagram, X, Slack or in a slide: choose the GIF, pick how many times it repeats and the color behind transparent pixels, and download the MP4. The GIF is decoded and the video encoded on your device; nothing is uploaded. The tool is free, adds no watermark, needs no account and uses no credits.

Why use Cicadas for GIF to MP4

Every frame, with its own timing

Each GIF frame becomes a video frame and keeps its delay, so the MP4 plays at the GIF's speed. Transparent areas are filled with white or black, because MP4 video has no transparency.

Repeat short loops

An MP4 plays once on most sites, so a short GIF can repeat 2, 3 or 5 times inside the file. Each MP4 holds up to 3,000 frames.

Convert GIF to MP4 with no upload

No account, upload or credits: your browser reads the GIF and encodes H.264 video on your device. The MP4 lives only on this page, so download it before you leave or refresh.

GIF to MP4 FAQ

Tested on Cicadas · reviewed 2026-10-01

Tested on 2026-10-01 in Chrome: a 3.5 MB GIF (50 frames, 480 × 270) became a 642 KB MP4 in under a second, and a 7.0 MB GIF (75 frames, 640 × 360) repeated twice became a 10-second MP4 of 1.2 MB on a phone-sized screen. A GIF from another encoder, with transparency, frame clearing and an odd 201 × 151 size, came out as a 200 × 150 MP4 with each frame in place. ffprobe read every MP4 back as H.264 with the expected frame count and length; a frame of the coffee MP4 matched its GIF frame at 33.8 dB PSNR. The GIF decoder and the MP4 writer are our own code.
